Carytown Take 2

Well, I figured today was going to be a bad day. It was a million degrees outside (and I had to run a full gauntlet), I was kind of tired from having to wake up so early, and I figured it would be another day just like pretty much every other day this summer, spent hanging around in my pajamas watching Netflix for hours on end.

I couldn't have been more wrong.

First of all, HAWKINS ONLY MADE US RUN A HALF GAUNTLET! I know this probably sounds like a stupid thing to be happy over, but full gauntlets are pretty much like death and I had been freaking out about it since the night before thinking I was going to be that one person who fainted or couldn't finish or something. Also, since it was really, REALLY hot today (temperatures in the high 90's with 98% humidity) we spent a lot of the time just sitting in the shade stretching and talking and just hanging out. Also, I MADE JV FIELD HOCKEY!!! No one got cut this year since we didn't have that large of a group of freshmen try out, so it's going to be an awesome season!

After practice, Finn's mom, Mrs. O'byrne, came by and picked me up and took me back to their house. Finn and I hung out for a while, ate spaghetti, took some crazy pictures, and eventually went to Carytown where we met our friend Siena who we had not seen since school ended. We had such a fun time together after not seeing each other for months!

Finn is the definition of beauty
We went to BEV's for ice cream because it is about a million times better than both Sweet Frog and Yapple...
Trying out canes in Bygone's
Please excuse my unfortunate face, but we just had to try on these top hats...
Rachet mirror selfie sorry these hats were just too great...
True love.

We checked out pretty much every thrift store in Carytown (I bought a cute 1$ dress), and ate doughnuts, ice cream, slurpees, sushi, and pretty much everything else you can imagine.

After a week of field hockey practice I think I deserve to pig out.
Actually, I say that every day.
Oh well.

The Cure for Sore Legs

Thanks to this week full of field hockey practice, I have not been able to blog as much as I would had liked to. I am also not able to walk like a normal human being, as well as sit down without making some sort of terrible old lady noise.

There's only one cure for this problem.

It started with getting out of my room (where I've spent most of my week in my pajamas with my laptop recovering by watching cheesy 90's movies on Netflix) Even though I was pretty lazy for most of the day (we did a gauntlet at practice this morning, I feel like I deserve it) tonight I was reunited with some of my amazing camp friends who I had missed so freakishly much it was insane.

Ok, so it wasn't all of them, only me, Cameron, and Riona. But since we're kind of the original three (we met when we were 11 and have been together since the 6th grade) it was wonderful anyway. We went to the Galaxy Diner in Carytown, where I tried the AMAZING oreo malt, had a hard time choosing between Yapple and Sweetfrog but eventually went to Sweetfrog (which, if you haven't been there in a while, I HIGHLY suggest the raspberry pomegranate flavor), walked up and down the street a couple times just talking about life, and eventually walked Riona back to her bike. Since Cameron was giving me a ride home, we just hung out for a while and took some weird Snapchat pictures and enjoyed being social since neither of us have really had a social life since camp ended. Oh well, tonight was worth a couple weeks of sitting in my room watching Clueless on repeat...

Yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum
Riona and Cameron may have stolen my phone...
You can't deny it, we make one beautiful pair of best friends...

So, despite my failing efforts at sitting down and/or walking, at least I have wonderful friends like Cameron and Riona!

Kosmic Karma and Cookie Dough

Sometimes I think that even when it seems like something has gone wrong, it turns out to be a blessing in disguise. I found this to be especially true Sunday night. Since it was my best friend Lyla's birthday, we were planning on going to a concert featuring some bands from our school to celebrate, but due to some unfortunate weather forecasts, the concert was moved to a later date. Lyla and I weren't about to let that ruin our evening though, so we planned a last minute adventure to Carytown to try out the new pizza place, Mellow Mushroom. And now the Mellow Mushroom is my favorite place in the whole world, for one reason: The Kosmic Karma.

Basically, whoever it was that had the idea to put pesto on a pizza is my favorite person ever. Lyla and I had both heard about this from our friends, so we had to try it for ourselves. Despite it just being the two of us, we attempted a medium pizza, and it may have been one of the best things I have ever had in my life. Lyla and I managed to (almost) eat the entire thing, despite some struggles with large amounts of cheese and a tiny table and lack of forks. I'd say it was a worthwhile attempt.

After finishing at the Mellow Mushroom, Lyla and I walked around Carytown for a little while. Even though it was after 6 and mostly everything was closed, Carytown is just a really cool place to be, there's always people playing music on the streets and cool window displays and I just love everything about it. Lyla and I didn't exactly have enough money to buy anything from a place like Carytown Cupcakes or Sweet Frog or anything, so instead we walked to Kroger and bought a large roll of cookie dough. During the school year we would always buy cookie dough before class, so we figured we couldn't break the tradition. After buying our cookie dough, we sat in the cute cafe in the Kroger and ate our cookie dough with spoons while watching AFV and stalking people on Facebook. We figured since it was Lyla's birthday we were allowed to resort ourselves to this kind of behavior, at least this once.

After dropping Lyla off at her house, my dad and I didn't really feel like going home yet, so we drove down to Belle Isle. Even though it was getting dark and there were no places to park, we still drove around the island looking at the old Civil War monuments and watching the sunset, all while listening to probably every single Mumford and Sons song ever made. Next we drove through Shokoe Bottom as well as the downtown area and just looked at all the cool buildings and people and statues. Sometimes I forget just how amazing Richmond really is.

Since Lyla is going to New York this week, I guess we won't be going back to Carytown for a little while. I'll just have to wait to have another Kosmic Karma :)

Yummmmm...
